Covenant High Plains Surgery Center offers the unique opportunity of same day surgery, which allows patients to recover in the comfort of their own homes. Following these simple, straightforward guidelines will help us provide you with a smooth, efficient surgery experience.
items to bring:
- Any paperwork given to you or requested by your surgeon's office.
- All insurance cards and necessary insurance information.
- Payment plan (cash, check, MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover or Care Credit)
- A list of all your medications, including vitamins and supplements.
- A protective case for your eyeglasses, contact lenses, and hearing aids.
Before surgery
- Notify your surgeon of any changes (cold, fever, persistent cough) that might interfere with your scheduled surgery.
- Make prior arrangements for a family member or friend to accompany you to and from Covenant High Plains Surgery Center.
PLEASE REMEMBER: NO food or drink (including water) should be consumed after midnight prior to surgery.
The day of surgery
- You must be accompanied by a friend or family member both to and from Covenant High Plains Surgery Center.
- Carefully follow any pre-surgery instructions issued to you by your doctor or surgeon.
- Bathe or shower with antibacterial soap prior to coming to the surgery center. Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is easy to put on and fasten. Do not wear creams, lotion, make-up, or powder on the day of your surgery.
- Leave your valuables at home. The surgery center cannot be responsible for lost or damaged personal belongings.
after surgery
- Our licensed, professional staff will closely monitor your progress post-surgery.
- Once you are awake and our staff approves your condition, the family member or friend who accompanied you to the surgery center will be allowed to visit.
- You will remain in the recovery area until your surgeon or anesthesiologist determines that you are ready to be discharged.
- Before leaving the surgery center, a nurse will review your discharge instructions with you and provide a written copy of them.

- Be home by yourself
- Drive a vehicle
- Sign any contracts or legal documents
Children's Surgery
- Talk with your child about the upcoming surgery. Make sure your child knows you will be there while the surgery is going on and when he/she wakes up.
- We encourage you to take your child for a tour of Covenant High Plains Surgery Center before the day of surgery so that he/she will know what to expect.
- Your child may bring a favorite toy or blanket on the day of surgery.
- A parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18 undergoing surgery or a procedure must remain in the facility during the course of the entire procedure and recovery of the child.
- Arrange for one adult to tend to the child in the car on the way home and another adult to drive.

After you have been discharged, the surgery center staff will call you at home to check on your progress after surgery. If you have any questions after your procedure, please, do not hesitate to contact your surgeon.
Because we greatly appreciate your input, you will receive a patient satisfaction survey after your surgery. Please fill it out honestly and return in the self addressed envelope that is sent back to the survey company; we welcome the opportunity to improve our services and satisfy our patients.
