When you are awake and able to move around, the family member or friend who accompanied you to the surgery center will be allowed to visit you.

You will remain in the recovery area until your surgeon or anesthesiologist determines that you are ready to be discharged.

Once you are ready to go home, a nurse will review your discharge instructions with you, and you will receive a written copy of them.

Because it is not safe, you should not

  • Drive a vehicle for at least 24 hours after surgery.

Do not sign any contracts or legal documents for 24 hours following your surgery.

If you have questions after your surgery, please contact your surgeon. The surgery center staff will call you at home to check on how well you are doing after surgery.

After your surgery, you will receive a patient satisfaction survey. Please complete and return. Your input is greatly appreciated.

CHILDREN’S SURGERY

Talk with your child about the upcoming surgery. Make sure your child knows that you will be there while the surgery is going on and when he/she wakes up.

Taking your child for a tour of Covenant High Plains Surgery Center before the day of surgery so that he/she will know what to expect is a good idea.

Let your child bring a favorite toy or blanket.

A parent or guardian of a child under the age of 18 undergoing surgery or a procedure must remain in the facility during the course of the entire procedure and recovery of the child.

Have one adult tend to the child in the car on the way home and another adult drive.
